Current resident rotating in neuroanesthesia is enjoying his time tremendously.  He's working hard, getting a good education and at the end will be a better more competent anesthesiologist.   How do I know if he is enjoying his rotation?  Easy: He told me "I wish I could do neuro cases every day for the rest of my residency."

Keep up the good work CF.

A nice day at work

Nothing beats the work of an academic anesthesiologist to see the residents enjoy the specialty as much as the attending.  Today was such a day. Kudos to my resident.

My resident finished his neuro rotation today and asked about fellowships in neuro. No greater feeling of satisfaction knowing that our teaching influences our younger colleagues to follow in our foot steps.

Having Pride in one's work

I was getting ready to do a very complex neuroanesthesia case the other day. It involved providing care to a patient with severe cerebrovascular disease. Patient and anesthesia plan were discussed the night before surgery. I arrived in the morning and saw the picture on the right showing the drips needed for the case. Not bad I said to myself; the resident set up the stuff as I discussed with him but we can do better. Results are in the second picture. We should have pride in the work we do. A neat and organized anesthesia work area/equipment will lead us to provide better care to our ever increasing complex patients.
